About Me

I'm a dreamer and a doer. I'm ready to make something happen in a community! Let's start with small actions to make big dreams come true.

About Me

This original community project started on paper in the late 70s. with myself and a few close friends. Soon, the realities of life took it`s tole on our vision and the project was put aside, but not forgotten. Now, some 30 years later, times in the world being what they are, call for a compelling examination of the worlds direction and ones very own effect on it.

Most of you here are looking to make that change for you and your family. A change to a better life... looking for a special place ... a gathering of people much like ourselves, friends... to build each others homes... grow each others food... raise our children and support our friends and families young and old through a sustainable way of living on the earth. You all describe something you are looking for... It may be hard to put your finger on it, but you know when you've found it, its almost magical when you do...  I look forward to working with everyone to create this magical place called... Home.

Welcome! To the Betterfields Community.

About Me

I am interested in being a member of a sustainable community, particularly one with great ambition. My interests include philosophy, ecology, music and art. I have lived and worked on farms for the greater part of my life. My parents own 150 acres of dairy in Taranaki. There I learned to drive tractors, milk cows, make hay, shear sheep, chainsaw, grow vegetables and do various other tasks. I have also worked on permaculture properties in Levin and Auckland, learning about such practices as the use of composting toilets and woodchipping.

About Me

this sounds like a great idea, but really........if this was shelved 30 years ago and then again recently, it will never get off the ground........i admire your vision richard, but this takes more than vision.....many of the eco-villages have never gone anywhere because they were not realistic, nothing but dreams......i expect this will get booted into file 13.......if it is a go, i would put all my efforts into it........prove me wrong, richard.

About Me

We are a family of 6 with 3 grown daughters and 1 still growing ! We have been looking for land here in Kentucky for a family sustainable farm-but are open to a larger community such as Betterfield's . We all have many gifts and talents to offer-from all forms of construction, homebuilding , teaching,  horticulture, bicycle building, to dance, ceramics and woodworking to name a few. Please keep us informed on your progress -as we would be very interested in the locations you are considering .

About Me

I am a middle-aged single female. I think with what's going on in this country, people need to band together to create self-sustaining communities and get away from "progress"!  I have been looking for someplace that builds together and creates a living together, as opposed to many communities where you buy your plot of land and build everything yourself on your own land and then share some meals at a community house. There's more to it than that.

I have always said I was born 100 years too late. I like to be out on a farm, my body clock has always been get up when the sun comes up and go to sleep when the sun goes down (when I lived in Fargo, ND and MN, I went to bed about 6pm in the middle of the winter).

I have lots of farming experience, have owned animals all my life and am learning about organic farming (what goes with what to fend off critters and rotate to keep the soil enriched).

And ... I have three lemon trees and two apple trees I've been growing in my house (and outside in the warm months) - I need a big farm to plant them!

About Me

I am a 32 year old single mom of 2 young children.  I work more than full time as a computer programmer and feel as though I am missing out on what is really important in life.  I need a change, I need more quality time with my kids and I want my kids to experience life in a different way than they have up to this point.  I think the three of us would flourish in this type of community.

About Me

My wife and I are very interested in intentional communities.

I have an abundance of skills that could help out in many aspects. I work in IT now so I know comupters, storage, websites, etc.. I am very creative in many mediums and have even built my own sailboat from scratch. I can repair just about any household items that have issues, I am interested in green electricity, wind, solar etc.

I love to sail and I love the water and marinas. If this community was to be at the waters edge, there is a whole other area of tourism there.

I love the thought of working on and in where I live to better the community rather than commute across town to better some CEO's pocket book.

About Me

I am a single mother of a 9 year old boy and have been looking at New Zealand as my escape to "Paradise" for a long time. I would love to raise my son in a healthy, sustainable environment where he learns how to be a collaborative member of a safe and self-sustaining community.  I am a web developer as well as a graphic artist, painter and have built and run an online "store" for 15 years. I would love to use my talents and experience to help to monetize a community of sharing citizens. I have also recently purchased a top of the line dehydrator and a Sampson juicer to give a "raw" diet a go! (or at least play with making concoctions with dehydrated fruit's/veggies and raw juices etc.. As for other skills, I enjoy gardening and had a custom ceramic tile design business for many years before getting online. Part of designing/installing tile kitchens and baths and other ceramics for interior designers was also alot of interior/exterior painting and faux finish work. I'm sure in New Zealand there is hardly a need for faux anything though!  I look forward to hearing more about the Betterfields Community.

About Me

Hi everyone and greetings from Aotearoa

I have been living in New Zealand since the mid eighties. I am a self employed mechnical building services engineer and architectural designer.  Originally from Switzerland where I was trained and educated. But in my blood veins flows Italian blood. My father flew from Italy after the WWII on a bike to Switzerland, fell in love with another girl from Italian parents and there you go.....

I was born in Switzerland and grew up bilingual or trilingual as in Swiss schools at that time French was compolsury as well.

To make a long story short. My passion was always with energy conservation and smart buildings. Then I met a view Hari Chrishna people and became a vegetarian [that is what you do when you are young and naive]. Spend some time in India, Nepal, SE-Asia, Australia and landed in New Zealand.

I hated NZ first and thought it is nothing else than a country just like Switzerland at the other side of the world. Sure enough I fell in love with the place. I am not quite sure what it was: The opaque blue sea and the huge Fern trees at Able Tasman or the lovely Maori girls.?

I worked essentially all over the world with a number of multi national and consulting engineering companies being involved from land development over project management for assest over a few hundred million dollars. Project management and make things happen was my daily bread and butter. Essentially I decided to become self employed.

Of course there are always the questions there: What is the meaning of life? How can I contribute more for more harmony amongst us all? How can I save the planet being robbed of all the lovely nature and resource? How can we make rubbish work for us rather then against us...etc. etc. Essentially throughout the world, where ever I went, I met people who had the same questions. Basic needs of shelter, food, love and human touch are in us all. We just haven't yet worked out how to bring this all into a healthy balance without harming each other and destroying in the process our planet.

I always ask people and I do wonder if they have seen another planet EARTH parked next to the present mother EARTH?

Creating a community where certain basic values are not just an utopian dream has been a vision which followed my life constantly and who knows perhaps we are now making the first step into the right direction.
